New Zealand has reaffirmed to continue providing aid to Myanmar’s democratization process, official media reported Saturday.

It was pledged by visiting Speaker of the House of Representatives of New Zealand David Carter when he called on Myanmar President U Thein Sein at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw Friday.

U Thein Sein thanked New Zealand’s constant support for Myanmar ‘s reform and stance in the international arena.

Carter, who is currently in Myanmar to observe the country’s reform, also had discussion with U Thein Sein on New Zealand’s effort for becoming a non-permanent UN Security Council member, humanitarian aid to Myanmar, New Zealand’s investment in Myanmar’s livestock, agricultural and telecommunication sectors, and offering scholarships to post-graduate Myanmar students.

Last month, New Zealand opened its first embassy office in Yangon.

In the year to the end of April, New Zealand exports to Myanmar were valued at around 22 million NZ dollars (18.12 million US dollars).
