English PEN's Writers in Prison Committee (WiPC) and the John Armitage Memorial Trust (JAM) are holding a joint fundraiser in honour of persecuted writers. The excellent Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, will perform two JAM commissions – Thoughts Scribbled on a Blank Wall (lyrics by John McCarthy) and No Answer (lyrics by Chris Abani) – and Michael Tippett's amazing Five Spirituals from Child of Our Time. These performances will be interspersed with readings from the work of persecuted Burmese writers, including English PEN Honorary Members Aung San Suu Kyi and Zargana, performed by comedians Jo Brand, Alexander Armstrong and Reece Shearsmith, poet Ruth Padel and TV chef Clarissa Dickson Wright.
