Arakan Rohingya National Organisation (ARNO) strongly condemns the arrest and detention by SPDC, of prominent students leaders and other activists for their peaceful expression of concern over the sudden massive fuel price hike that has led to the rise in all essential commodities.
We express our full support to this people’s movement that truly translates the resentment rooted in the hearts and minds of the people of Burma over their growing pains under military dictatorship. In Burma people are on the brink of starvation and this silent and peaceful marching, which began on Sunday 19/08/07 in Rangoon, has spread to other parts of the country and to some parts of the world. We express our deep sympathy for the suffering of tens of millions of our fellow citizens in Burma.
We demand SPDC to immediately release all those student leaders and activists, who have been arrested. We also demand for the immediate release of all political prisoners. Meanwhile, we call upon the Government of the United Kingdom, United States, EU, ASEAN and neighbouring countries to pressurize the SPDC to respect and yield to the will of the people. We also urge upon the neighbouring China to review its policy on the military ruled Burma.
