Maungdaw, Arakan State: Police and Hluntin (riot police) increase harassments against the Rohingya community in Maungdaw Township, said a school teacher preferring not to be named. “On September 21, a group of police from Bawli Bazar of Maungdaw north arrested Alizuhar (40), son of Abul Hussain, hailed from Lonedon village under area No.5 over the allegation that he had been involved in violence of June 8, 2012.”However, he was sent to Maungdaw police station for more action against him on September 22. Earlier, in 2012, once he was arrested by the police over the accusation that he was involved in the violence in 2012. But, he was released from the Maungdaw court after spending Kyat 500,000, but the judge of the court demanded Kyat 10 million for his release. He is arrested twice for one case by police, said a close relative of the victim.
Besides, on August 11, Hyrul Amin (35), son of Sayedullah, hailed from Hati Para by the police of Bawli Bazar over the allegation that he was also involved in the violence of 2012 and then he was sent to Maungdaw jail for more inquiry. Afterwards, there is no information his whereabouts, one of the victim’s friends said on condition of anonymity.
Police announced that about 52 persons were involved in the clashes between Rakhine and Rohingya in 2012, of them some fled to Bangladesh for fear of arrest and torture and some 20 members are still living in Arakan in panic-stricken state, the friend more added.
Though the violence period has been passed more than one year, the police and Hluntin is still hunting to Rohingya villagers so far, regarding the violence between the two communities (Rakhine and Rohingya).Really, the violence was occurred in southern side of Maungdaw, but police is still hunting villagers of Maungdaw north, said a youth from the locality who denied to be named.
When asked the police regarding the event, they did not response any comment about the matter.
