PADANG BESAR, Oct 3 — The General Operations Force and police detained 21 illegal immigrants during a border patrol at 8.30 am here today.

The Perlis Immigration Department deputy director Hazmi Sulaiman said they were all men, between 15 and 42, and comprised 19 Myanmar nationals and two Bangladeshis, who had entered the country without travel documents.

Hazmi, who is also Padang Besar Immigration head, said the arrests were made before the scheduled inspection of the border fence between Bukit Kayu Hitam and Padang Besar by Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man today.

Azlan also surveyed the operations at the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine complex, accompanied by Padang Besar deputy police chief DSP Rafae Hassan.

Hazmi said since January this year more than 800 illegal immigrants, mostly from Myanmar, had been detained in the vicinity of Padang Besar.
