Crackdown on Yaba Trade
We, the undersigned Rohingya organisations worldwide welcome the recent declaration of the Bangladesh Government’s intention to launch a strong crackdown against yaba trade starting from this Ramadan.
We appeal to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh to launch a war against drugs by taking a strong and decisive stance against the flow of yaba pills from the Myanmar.
Rohingya refugees currently stranded in the camps of Bangladesh are hereby requested to inform the Bangladeshi authorities on any suspicious activities linked to yaba smuggling. Rohingya elders, community leaders and religious scholars are also requested to educate the younger generation about the dangers of this narcotics that has destroyed countless families in Bangladesh and many countries of South East Asia. At the same time, yaba smuggling has provided the Myanmar army with the resources to carry out genocide against Rohingya Muslims and the ability to wage wars against other ethnic minorities.
Drug trafficking is totally contrary to Islamic values and given the current situation, Rohingyas are hereby urged to take the most drastic stance against the smuggling of yaba. As most of these yaba pills are crossing from the Myanmar side of the border, Rohingya refugees are requested to keep their eyes and ears open and inform the Bangladesh authorities on any suspicious activities related to the cross border yaba trade.
Last not the least, we reiterate that we are grateful to Bangladesh for giving us safe abode when we were being wiped out in 2017.
