MAKKAH — The task force drawn from various governmental departments to address the problems of the Burmawi community in Makkah and gather information about their number and conditions, has completed its work, according to a local daily.
The task force, which consists of 20 field teams, will also gather information about the Burmawi community in Taif and Jeddah to speed up the process of legalizing their residential status in the Kingdom.
Once the committee’s work has been completed, all Burmawis will be issued residency permits.The Burmawis who live in Al-Misfalah district of Makkah will be provided with proper accommodation before authorities demolish the existing makeshift homes there to make room for the ongoing development projects in the district.
Makkah Mayor Dr. Osama Al-Bar said the International Islamic Relief Organization has completed a study on the Burmese community’s health, economic and social conditions.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has directed the concerned authorities to correct the legal status of the inhabitants of the underdeveloped areas of Makkah who are estimated to be in thousands and who were either born in the Kingdom or have been staying in the country for long years.
