Irrawaddy: More Rohingya boat people detained in Thai waters – Khun Sam

Two more boats carrying more than 150 Rohingya men from Burma, who said they left their homes because of political persecution by Burmese authorities, were detained on Tuesday off the western coast of South Thailand by marine police.

Overview
The Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) values its continued cooperation with international organization (IO) and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) partners worldwide. PRM will accept proposals from IOs and international NGOs to provide assistance to the following Burmese populations of concern:
1. Rohingya refugees and local communities in Bangladesh
2. Stateless Rohingya in Northern Rakhine State in Burma

It's nighttime and FRONTLINE/World reporter Evan Williams is on a tense drive along the Thai/Burma border with members of the Karen National Union guerrilla army. The guerilla group has offered to take Williams into Burma, where they are working with a humanitarian group called the Free Burma Rangers to dispense aid. Several hundred thousand displaced people from Burma are hiding out in the jungle, driven from their villages by the country's brutal military regime.
