Gambia v. Myanmar Moves to the Next Phase

ARNO welcomes the decision by the International Court of Justice evaluating and rejecting Myanmar’s arguments, specifically whether The Gambia can file a claim as a state party that has not been injured under the Genocide Convention. The Court specifically stated that these arguments have “no basis in law.” The Court concluded The Gambia can pursue this matter as a party.

ARNO welcomes the straightforward decision made today by the International Court of Justice. The Rohingya continue to be persecuted within Burma and Myanmar has done nothing to stop the tide of violence against the Rohingya.

Given today’s ruling, ARNO looks forward to continuing to elevate the voice of the Rohingya people and further demands that Myanmar ceases and desist the genocide against the Rohingya people and violence against all our brothers and sisters throughout Burma.
