KUALA LUMPUR: Three Myanmar construction workers were killed while another sustained a broken leg following a landslide at a construction site in Taman Sierra, Ukay Perdana, here yesterday.

The three who died were Mohd Alam, Kowrin and Romzo Ali, aged between 29 and 34, who were buried under the debris.

Assistant operations director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Mohd Sani Harul said the incident occurred at 11.29 yesterday morning when eight workers were working on the drainage system.

“The collapsed wall, which was three metres high, had crashed on four workers but one of them sustained a broken leg and firemen rescued him together with four other workers, who were working near the landslide area.

“We took half-an-hour to pull out the three victims who were buried under the debris. The one who was injured is being treated at the Ampang Hospital,” he said at a media conference at the site.

He said the bodies of the three victims had been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for autopsy.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department received a call at 11.29am and a fire engine with eight firemen arrived at the incident site at 11.50am.

Meanwile, Gombak member of parliament Azmin Ali said the landslide was not a natural disaster but an accident at the work place.

“The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has issued a directive to the management of the project to stop work immediately until the investigation has been completed,” he said when visiting the location.

Meanwhile in Shah Alam, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim directed the MPAJ to investigate the incident.

He said the MPAJ was also directed to prepare a comprehensive report on the incident including from the engineering aspect.

“In fact, independent consultants would be invited if necessary to conduct the investigation and prepare the report,” he told reporters after the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here yesterday. — Bernama
